Display Menu App Reviews
My MacBook running Yosemite won’t let me change screen resolution other than the settings “allowed” by System Preferences “Display” (i.e. 1,440 x 900), even the the MacBook screen has 2560x1600 pixels. With this app, I can go beyond Apple’s settings when I need some more screen real estate. Thanks!
When I reboot my mini without a monitor connected, the remote display resolution via screen sharing is lower than I would like. This application lets me change the resolution remotely to something more appropriate.
Upgrade to pro useless. I installed the free version on a MacBook 2016 Retina, liked it, but I wanted the intermediary resolution of 1680x1050 as shown in the app store screenshot, since the free version jumped straight off from 1440x900 to 2048x1280 (that’s too much of a big step). The Pro version just added a bunch of duplicate resolutions the free version already had, but two totally pointless extremely low-resolutions. Total waste of money to upgrade to pro.
It worked!!
Wasted hours to configure my display via system settings but in 5, this app fixed by changing resolution of the monitor.
I upgraded to the pro version hoping for more resolutions in headless mode, the only thing i got was a credit card charge for no additional featues. Highly disappointed do not waste your money
Does not support retina resolutions
Works only with low dpi resolution on retina MBP
TL;DR - Using Pro version (in-app purchase) I can’t set a headless Mac ( Screen Sharing) to resolutions appropriate for viewing monitor. Strangely, this app allows me to set the resolution to a variety of choices, just none that fit the native, & common, resolution of the many 24” monitors I own (1920x1200). 1920 x 1080 is the closest available option. The developer was quick to respond via Twitter, but said it couldn’t be done unless I actually plugged the monitor into the mac I want to change the resolution on or purchased some HDMI hardware dongle. Not true as I found two other apps that actually work. One was really expensive & required installation as a startup service, etc. The other is $3 & is a cleaner interface & even allows me to set my 5K iMac to run at the full 5K.
Awesome
Fantastic for remote access to headless (or otherwise) macs!
IMAC 5K OK!
Perfect. Solve all problems. Connecting imac 5k to a projector Asus P2E.
My laptop is running el capitan, which have some issue with external screen resolution. This app works ok, but the pro version still didn’t provide any improvement.
BROKEN 10.2 Sierra
Has not been updated in 2 years! Requires uninstall once 10.2 is loaded
After installing the beta and eventually GM version of Sierra, the resolution for my external Dell P2715Q monitor wouldn’t consistenly display properly. Before the upgrade, I was able to use 2550x1440. However, after the upgrade I was only able to get 4K or 1080p resolutions to work consistently. There are some workarounds but they seemed temporary at best. I installed Display Menu and easily can select many different resolutions supported by my monitor. Thanks team, great work!
I really appreciate this app. Being able to change my resolution to 2560x1600 on the MBP 13” is amazing! I tyically like to have several windows up at once and this allows me to do it! Thank you!
Don’t bother buying this thing, EasyRes is better and totally free. I bought it before i knew about EasyRes and found it to be buggy - it keeps losing track of the fact that I actually purchased it, have to restore purchase constantly.
I run a headless Mac Mini as a home server, and this app made it possible to access the server on my MacBook Pro 2016. I don’t know why macOS Sierra + Screen Sharing won’t let you select a usable screen resolution—microscopic icons are ludicrous. (Not only that, but the Mac Mini couldn’t push that many pixels and gave up responding after several minutes.) This free app made it possible to connect to the server, fix a problem, and get out again. Sure, the text is a bit blurry—but at least I can read it!
I purchased and installed DisplayMenu for my MacBook Pro. I quickly noticed that the resolution I set is NOT retained after a shut down or reboot. I then emailed the app manufacturer and have yet to receive a response for assistance. The app works as advertised, as long as you don’t mind switching the resolution EVERYTIME you startup your computer.
This app let me chose a resolution for my external monitor who was not in the system preferences. So now I can use the right resolution for my monitor. :)
Spot-on feature set (HiDPI and non-HiDPI modes, multi-monitors, AppleScript, bookmarking) with streamlined UI design that stays out of the way. Bravo.
My Mac does not recognize my LCD default resolution, which is 1680x1050, so I installed Display Menu to try to fix it. But it also does not show the correct resolution, it basically shows the same options as Mac Settings
I took me several hours to note that it wasn`t me who accidantely deleted the display menu icon but it was removed in the latest OSX update. This app simply helped me out; great job, guys !
