Display Menu App Reviews

Most Valuable App that I have ever purchased!

When Apple released the ‘Retina’ Macbook, they took away the capability to set the screen resolution to a specific resolution. (Rather, they now have ‘scaling’ with fluffy values like ‘Larger Text’ and ‘More Space’ rather than discrete values.) When I had to do a demo/presentation at a conference, I was suddenly unable to set the output resolution to the specific resolution that I needed for my demo (which at that time was 720p). I then stumbled onto this wonderful utility, and suddenly I have EVEN MORE control over output resolutions than ever before. This utility was a life saver - and at such a cheap price, it is truly incredible value.

Amazing!

Allows me to set custom resolutions which is just what I needed. You should have a donation link somewhere. Thank you!

ReceiptCheckin

I have another MAC that I keep offline that I want to use this application with. But I can’t because sha1 of my online computer + receipt doesn’t match the sha1 of the offline computer + receipt. I’m not sure why a receipt is necessary, considering the app is free.

Great app, terrible support

I have tried to get support from these guys via twitter and email many times and they don’t reply at all. What good is a piece of software if the developer won’t help their users.

Fantastic!

I have an issue with my MacBook Pro when it wakes from sleep remembering the external display type. The detect displays setting fixes that lickety-split. Thanks!

love it

I love this app. its so easy to use and it works great. 1 main thing i wish it had was the ability to tell the mac to only use an external display when one is connected to a laptop (i.e. ability to turn off the internal display of a macbook pro and use only a connected external display)

Works beautifully with a very small footprint

This app works exactly as described and I have found it to be very valuable. Whether multiple displays or remote connections (RDP, Splashtop, Team Viewer et al), Display Menu saves my time and sanity.

Free version only has 1 retina setting. Rest are blurry.

I tried this and every setting except the native 2560 X 1600 resolution is blury on my new retina 13” MacBook Pro. The four retina settings in the Apple Display system preferences look far better to me. None of these resolution settings (except the native 2560 X 1600 resolution) is usable to me. They are too blurry. The new “Pro” version is supposed to offer retina settings but I am leery of spending money until I know they not be blurry also.

Worked for my ViewSonic

System settings wasn’t listing my native resolution for some reason, and after installing this app, I was able to set perfect native resolution for my monitor. Thanks to the author!

Wow ! What a GREAT APP!!!!!!!!<<<<<<

I can’t tell you how long I have been trying to adjust my duel moniitor system. I have an Imac with a Dell monitor combination. And no matter how hard I tried to find information tutorials at youtube, they were all how to “set up” a dual monitor but not how to adjust the resolution. Then FINALLY I found “DISPLAY MENU” AND WOW. I downloaded it and it immediately came up on the menu in the finder and I scrolled the all the options and found the display resolution I needed! THANKS SO MUCH “DISPLAY MENU” DEVELOPERS ! It is so great to find something after a long time struggling to come up with a REAL WINNER. And “Display Menu” is a REAL WINNER !!!!!!!!!! :)

its good, but not perfect yet.

It would be great if you could specify any resolution you want. sometimes the default options are not the ones you want. For example, I wanted this app to solve a problem with the mac that couldnt understand the correct resolution.

Just what I needed

I have two displays attached to my Mac Mini (Late 2014). A Dell P2815Q (4k) display and a Dell P2715H (2.5k) display. This app makes it quicker and simpler to choose alternate resolutions, which I do frequently on the 4k display (usually 4k mode or 1080p mode). It’s convenient and it works. I usually leave the P2715H in 2560x1440 mode. Other reviewers who wrote that the display is blurry have probably selected display modes that are not supported by their hardware, or they chose a low resolution scaled mode. There are no apps that can fully compensate for display hardware limitations. For best results, select an even multiple of your native display mode (High Resolution mode). For a 4k display, that’s 1080p.

Great app!

I have an external monitor that didn’t work very well (super glitchy!) with my iMac. I used this app to manually adjust the refresh rate, and now it works great!

An Awesome App for External Displays

For sometime after I bought my new external monitor, I was worried about the resolution. Apple’s Display preferences doesn’t show all the supported resolutions of the monitor. That is where this small but powerful app came in handy. Thank you Thorsten Karrer

Pretty good, but wish it was more flexible

It works like a charm, but for my external display, it only gives me one 16:9 resolution, when I know the desplay can handle more 16:9 and 16:10 resolutions, but this could only be explored if I were able to put in my own resolutions. It wouldn’t be dangerous to test on the second display, so it’d be nice to be able to have that option.

Great! Exactly what I need.

I wanted to run my retina MBP at native resolution (2880 x 1800), but it’s not available in the system setting. This app does exactly what it’s supposed to and best of all it’s free. Highly recommended!

Works as advertised, MUST if you use (even sporadically) another monitor

Apple should add this as part of the OS.

Perfect!

Just what I needed for my headless Mac Mini. Thank you!

Found a resolution not available in System Preferences

The program found my monitor’s default resolution after clicking on the “Detect displays” menu option. Then, I went to “System Preferences->Displays” and selected “Optimize for <my monitor>”. That’s it! Now my monitor is operating at its native resolution of 1600x900. And the program is free! Excellent. :-)

This App Saved Me Big $$$ and Time

I was installing a new Mac in an auditorium this weekend to be connected to an existing projector with a 100 foot VGA cable. We have to use a VGA amplifier to get a high quality signal. That amplifier prevented the Mac Mini from seeing the projector resolution info. My only choice was to use a 1280 x 1024 resolution that was the wrong aspect ratio. I was wondering If I needed to install a new cable, or use a different projector. With no time or money to do either, I tried this $2 app. It worked flawlessly! Just a click from the menu bar I can set the resolution to whatever I want it to be. I cannot imagine what I would have had to do without this app. I bought another copy for my personal Mac. I will do all by display res switching from this little app from now on. I purchased the pro version. If you need this app, it is well worth $2. I did not try using just the free version. I rated it 5 starts. I would have given it 10 stars if I could have. Thank you the developers for a great little app that just works!
